What Did We Actually Learn

A Team Workbook for Naming What Changed, What Didn't, and What We're Doing Differently

This workbook produces a documented organizational debrief — what the change revealed, before the memory disappears.

This is for:

For the team that just survived a major change and needs to document what happened.

You'll produce:your Your Transition Debrief

The Name It First Experience

Unexamined change gets repeated — this workbook is the organization's memory of what just happened. What Did We Actually Learn walks the team that just survived a major change through the debrief that usually gets skipped: what worked and why, what failed and why, what the change revealed about how this organization actually functions, and what to carry forward before the people who know walk out the door. It is for the team — and the leader — who made it through and wants to turn the experience into organizational knowledge before everyone moves on and the memory is lost. You finish with a documented debrief — what was learned, what was revealed, and what the organization will do differently because of it.

You can opt into 30-, 60-, and 90-day check-ins from your account. We recommend you do — the point is to see what changed.

Sample questions

  1. What actually happened during this change — the version the official communications did not capture?
  2. What did your team do well under pressure that deserves to be named and remembered?
  3. What would you do differently if you had to navigate a major change again in the next twelve months?

Research basis

Grounded in experiential learning theory (Kolb, 1984) on reflection as a necessary condition for learning transfer / organizational debrief research (Tannenbaum and Cerasoli, 2013) showing structured after-action review improves future performance / Weick (1995) sensemaking framework on retrospective narration as a mechanism for extracting usable knowledge from completed experience.
