The Name It First Experience
Teams run on agreements — about communication, decision-making, conflict, recognition, and accountability. Most of those agreements are implicit, inherited, or assumed. When they fail, the team is left negotiating them in crisis rather than by choice. This extension gives team leaders a brief, structured process for building an explicit team charter at formation or at a pivotal reset moment. The work produces a single document: The Team Charter Agreement.

Research basis
Burnout and Engagement research (Maslach, Leiter) identifies community and fairness as primary engagement drivers — both of which are directly addressed by an explicit team charter. Research on team effectiveness (Hackman) identifies the clarity of team norms and operating agreements as a primary predictor of team performance. Nonviolent Communication (Rosenberg) provides the framework for building agreements that address observation, feeling, need, and request rather than just rule. Organizational Justice research (Colquitt, Greenberg) shows that procedural fairness in team processes is a primary predictor of team member engagement and commitment.
