The Screen Secret

You found something on a device you weren't supposed to see — tell a parent, or pretend you didn't?

You weren't looking for it. But now you've seen it. And you don't know what to do.

This is for:

Children ages 6 to 10 who are encountering content online that they don't understand, that makes them uncomfortable, or that they know they weren't supposed to see. Also for caregivers who want to open the conversation before something happens — not after.

You'll produce:your Your Story

The Name It First Experience

You were using the device and something came up that you weren't supposed to see. You don't even know exactly what it was. But something felt wrong. Now you have to decide: tell a grown-up, or act like it never happened? In The Screen Secret, you choose. Each path leads somewhere different — and some paths lead places you didn't expect. This is a story for children who are learning that the internet has things they're not ready for, and that telling a trusted adult is not the same as being in trouble. The output is your Screen Secret Page — what you chose and what happened next.

You can opt into 30-, 60-, and 90-day check-ins from your account. We recommend you do — the point is to see what changed.

Sample questions

  1. What do you think the kid is feeling when they see something on the screen that makes them uncomfortable — even if they don't totally understand what it was?
  2. What would YOU do if you saw something online that felt wrong or scary? Who would you tell?
  3. Why do you think telling a trusted grown-up about something you saw is different from being in trouble for it?
