The Housing Stability Workbook

What You Need to Stay — Named and Planned

Housed and stable are not the same word. Name the difference here.

This is for:

For the person navigating housing instability, eviction risk, or recent housing loss; those in transitional housing working toward stability; people in social service systems whose housing case plan does not capture what they need.

You'll produce:your Your Housing Stability Plan

The Name It First Experience

The forms ask about income and rental history. They do not ask why you are here or what you need to stay housed. This workbook does. Your Housing Stability Plan names the real drivers, the real assets, and the real options. The output is not a referral list. It is your signed Housing Stability Plan.

You can opt into 30-, 60-, and 90-day check-ins from your account. We recommend you do — the point is to see what changed.

Sample questions

  1. What does the person handling your case need to know about your situation that isn't in the forms?
  2. What does a stable living situation mean to you — what would it feel like, what would it allow?
  3. What does stability mean to you — and what would it feel like to have it?
  4. What is one thing you could do this week that would move you closer to secure housing?

Research basis

Housing instability research (National Alliance to End Homelessness): the most effective housing stability interventions address the client's identified barriers, not the program's standard categories. Housing First research (Tsemberis): housing stability is most durable when built on client-identified needs and goals. Self-determination theory (Deci, Ryan): autonomous goal-setting predicts better housing stability outcomes / imposed plans show lower completion. Trauma-informed care: housing instability clients carry high trauma burden / workbook completion in a safe, structured format is a trauma-informed engagement strategy.
