The Estate Conversation Workbook

What You Want to Leave and Who You Want to Leave It To — Named

The documents are the end of the estate conversation. This workbook is the beginning.

This is for:

For the Adults beginning or updating estate planning; those who want to have the estate conversation with family before the attorney does; those who know what they want but have not yet named it in a way their family can understand.

You'll produce:your Your Estate Conversation Guide

The Name It First Experience

Estate planning creates documents. This workbook creates understanding. It names what you want to leave, who you want to leave it to, and why — so the family conversation about inheritance is about your values, not about disagreements that could have been prevented. The Estate Conversation Agreement is yours when you finish.

You can opt into 30-, 60-, and 90-day check-ins from your account. We recommend you do — the point is to see what changed.

Sample questions

  1. What do you want your family to be spared from having to figure out without you?
  2. What conversations have you been putting off — and what would it take to have them now?
  3. What are your actual priorities for how your estate is handled — and are they documented?
  4. What matters most to you about how your wishes are carried out — and have you made that clear?

Research basis

Estate planning conflict research (American College of Trust and Estate Counsel): the majority of post-death family conflicts are not about the amount of the estate but about perceived unfairness and unexplained intentions — values communication prevents most of it. Financial therapy (Klontz): inheritance decisions are driven by money scripts and family values that estate documents do not address / explicit values conversation is the intervention. Legacy research (McAdams): the generativity motive — leaving something that outlasts you — is the primary psychological driver of estate planning / naming it explicitly improves the quality of planning decisions.
