Not Yet

You can't do it yet. That's not the same as can't do it.

"I can't" and "I can't yet" are different statements. One of them is more useful.

This is for:

For the Children ages 5 to 10 who are in the middle of learning something difficult and who are struggling with the gap between trying and succeeding. Also for caregivers and educators who want to build persistence and a growth orientation before children give up on challenges.

You'll produce:your Your Not Yet Agreement

The Name It First Experience

You tried. It didn't work. You tried again. Still not. In Not Yet, you navigate what to do when something is genuinely hard — when you're in the middle of learning and the middle is the worst part. Do you give up? Do you ask for help? Do you try a different way? Each path leads somewhere different. This is a story for children who are learning that not being able to do something yet is a temporary state — and that what they do in the not-yet determines how long it lasts. The output is your Not Yet Agreement — the thing you can't do yet, what you're going to try, and when you'll check back in with yourself.

You can opt into 30-, 60-, and 90-day check-ins from your account. We recommend you do — the point is to see what changed.

  2. What do you do when you feel like giving up — and does it help?
  3. What is the hardest part of being in the middle — the part between trying and being able to do it?
  4. What is something you could not do before that you can do now — and how long did the "not yet" part last?
