The Name It First Experience
Puerto Rican families navigate an identity that has no clean category: American citizens by birth, colonial subjects by law, islanders who left and mainlanders who never knew the island, and a diaspora now larger than the island's remaining population. They carry the Great Migration from the 1940s through the 1960s, the South Bronx and the bodega and the resilience of communities built from scratch, and the ongoing trauma of Hurricane María and the government response that followed. They also carry Taíno roots, Spanish colonial history, African heritage, and a culture — the music, the food, the Spanish — that has survived everything. This pack gives families structured prompts to document all of it. The output is a documented family archive.
