For Siblings of Neurodivergent Children
A Workbook for the Brother or Sister Who Shares Everything Except the Diagnosis
You love your sibling. You also have your own life. Both things are true at the same time.
For the Brothers and sisters of neurodivergent children — elementary through young adult — who have never had a workbook for them; parents who want to support all their children, not only the one with the diagnosis.
The Name It First Experience
Everyone asks how your sibling is doing. This workbook asks how you are doing. Through the Sibling Identity Map, you will name what is hard, what is good, and who you are becoming — not as a sibling, but as yourself.
You can opt into 30-, 60-, and 90-day check-ins from your account. We recommend you do — the point is to see what changed.
Sample questions
- What does it mean to be the sibling in your family — the one who shares everything except the diagnosis?
- What feelings do you have about your family that you haven't said out loud yet?
- Who are you in this family — and who are you becoming?
Research basis
Family systems theory (Bowen): diagnosis reorganizes the entire family system / sibling roles shift in response to parental attention redistribution. Sibling research (McHale, Updegraff): neurotypical siblings of children with disabilities show both resilience outcomes and elevated stress / outcomes depend on whether siblings have language and support for their experience. Neurodiversity frameworks (Singer, Silberman): autism-affirming approaches acknowledge the whole family unit including siblings. Narrative therapy (White, Epston): externalizing problems and authoring alternative stories supports identity formation in children navigating complex family dynamics. Identity development (Erikson): sibling role becomes identity-constituting / naming it is developmental work.
