For Parents of Gifted Children
The Child Who's Too Much and Not Enough at the Same Time
Giftedness is not a problem. It is intensity that requires a particular kind of parent.
For the parent of a gifted child who is exhausted in ways that nobody around them understands and is not allowed to say so.
The Name It First Experience
Everyone says you are lucky. You are. You are also exhausted in ways that nobody around you understands. This workbook names the identity of being the parent of a gifted child — the advocacy, the intensity, the asynchrony, and the love that holds all of it. The output is not a parenting strategy. It is The Parents of Gifted Children Identity Charter.
You can opt into 30-, 60-, and 90-day check-ins from your account. We recommend you do — the point is to see what changed.
Sample questions
- Who are you as a parent of a child who is both extraordinary and exhausting — and how do you hold that honestly?
- What does parenting a gifted child ask of you that nobody prepared you for?
- What do you need for yourself that gets lost in keeping up with them?
Research basis
Giftedness and family stress research (Silverman, Webb): parents of gifted children report higher advocacy fatigue and social isolation than parents of typical children. Dabrowski's overexcitabilities: gifted children's intensity (psychomotor, sensory, intellectual, emotional, imaginational) directly creates parental stress. Twice-exceptional research (Baum): 2e children (gifted + learning difference) create compounded parenting challenges that standard gifted resources do not address. Asynchronous development theory (Columbus Group): gifted children's uneven development in cognitive, emotional, and physical domains creates particular parenting challenges. Perfectionism research (Flett, Hewitt): gifted children and their parents often share perfectionism patterns / naming this is the first intervention.
