For Parents Going Through Divorce
The Kid in the Middle and How to Get Them Out
The marriage is ending. The parenting is not. The part of you that has to keep going.
For the parent in active divorce or post-divorce adjustment naming who they are as a co-parent.
The Name It First Experience
You are going through one of the hardest things a person goes through. And in the middle of all of it, you are still their parent. This workbook names who you are as the co-parent emerging from this — the values you're bringing forward, the parent you're choosing to be. The Parents Going Through Divorce Identity Charter is yours when you finish. The output is not a co-parenting plan. It is a parent identity document.
You can opt into 30-, 60-, and 90-day check-ins from your account. We recommend you do — the point is to see what changed.
Sample questions
- Who are you as a parent when your marriage is ending — and how do you protect your child without losing yourself?
- What does co-parenting through this look like — not perfectly, but honestly?
- What does your child need from you right now that you are in a position to give?
Research basis
Divorce and child outcomes research (Amato, Booth): parental conflict — not divorce itself — is the primary predictor of negative child outcomes / reducing conflict is the highest-leverage intervention. Co-parenting identity research: parents who have a stable self-concept as co-parent (independent of marriage identity) show lower conflict and better child outcomes. Attachment theory (Bowlby): children's secure attachment survives divorce when primary attachment figures remain emotionally available / parent identity stability is the mechanism. Bowen Family Systems Theory: divorce is a family system reorganization / new identity structures must replace the dissolved marital system. Grief theory (Worden): divorcing parents are processing loss while still parenting / naming both simultaneously is the clinical challenge.
