Workbook
For Korean Adoptee Families
The Search, the Silence, and the Identity Built Between Two Worlds
You don't have to find all the answers to document who you are. Start with what you know.
Korean adoptees — primarily those adopted internationally into white Western families in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s — and the families formed through adoption who want to understand and document what Korean adoptee identity means, including the search, the silence, and the identity built between two worlds.
The Name It First Experience
Korean adoptees carry one of the most specific identity experiences in the world: raised in one culture, carrying the biology of another, often looking visibly different from the family that raised them. This workbook examines what Korean adoptee identity actually involves: the silence that surrounded many adoptions, the racial identity of growing up Asian in a white family, the experience of searching for birth family, and the identity that exists whether or not the search succeeds. This workbook is for adoptees and for the families formed through adoption — because both have a story to document.
You can opt into 30-, 60-, and 90-day check-ins from your account. We recommend you do — the point is to see what changed.
Sample questions
- What does identity mean to you — the one you were raised in, the one you carry in your biology, or something you have built between the two?
- What was the silence in your adoption story — and what has it taken to name it, if you have?
- What do you know about who you are that exists independent of the search — or the outcome of it?
