The Name It First Experience
Garifuna families carry one of the most distinct identities in the Americas: descendants of Arawak and Carib peoples and enslaved Africans who built communities on St. Vincent, resisted British colonization, and were exiled to Central America in 1797. This workbook examines what Garifuna families live with: the language that survived colonial suppression, the dual identity that mainstream frameworks rarely address, and what it means to be Garifuna in New York or London where few people know who you are. The output is not a history lesson. It is a family document.
