Trauma-Informed Care (van der Kolk) documents the importance of brief, structured transition practices in reducing the physiological accumulation of traumatic stress. Research on critical incident stress management (Mitchell, Everly) provides the foundational framework for EMS post-incident support, and identifies the gap between formal CISD programs and the daily-accumulation problem. Compassion Fatigue research (Figley) identifies the cumulative pattern of secondary traumatic stress in EMS and the value of structured micro-interventions. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (Hayes) provides the values-grounding practice that underlies the Charter.
