Workbook

For Afro-German Families

Identity in a Country Still Learning How to See You

Germany is still learning how to name you. This workbook is where you name yourself.

This is for:

For the Afro-German person whose family carries an identity Germany has no clean word for.

You'll produce:your Afro-German Identity Document

The Name It First Experience

You are Afro-German. That is a real identity. This workbook does not wait for Germany to figure that out — it gives you the structure to write down who you are, where you come from, and what Black and German means in your specific life. You move through heritage, pattern, confrontation, and self-definition. The output is not a reflection exercise. It is your completed Afro-German Identity Document.

You can opt into 30-, 60-, and 90-day check-ins from your account. We recommend you do — the point is to see what changed.

Sample questions

  1. What word describes what it takes to exist as Black and German in a country that has historically insisted those two things don't go together?
  2. When you think about what being Afro-German means to you, what do you notice — which parts did you have to figure out for yourself because there was no ready-made answer?
  3. What would your identity document look like if you wrote it entirely for yourself — not to explain anything to Germany, but just to name who you are?
